Discover the Never-Before-Seen Beer from Lagunitas

July 30, 2015

To celebrate the months of summer, Third Rail Tavern will be hosting exclusive events as top breweries make their way to West Loop's official Blackhawks bar for tap takeovers. Guests will spend their evenings sipping on cold beer, enjoying the outdoor patio and learning about the brewing tactics that create these fan favorite drinks.

The event we are most excited for is the

Lagunitas Beer School taking over the back patio of Third Rail Tavern on Wednesday, August 5th at 7:30 pm. There will be different pours with a story behind each sample, bringing together the culture and history of their brewing.

To get you ready for this unique experience, here are five things we bet you didn’t know about Lagunitas:

  1. Lagunitas Brewing Co., which brews in Sonoma Valley, CA, built a 250,000 barrel-a-year facility in Chicago's Douglas  Park neighborhood. This has significantly impacted Illinois by vaulting the state into the top 10 in beer craft production. What would we do without you, Lagunitas?

  2. The WTF, also known as Wilco Tango Foxtrot, is a malty, robust, recovery ale

that was created in 2008 after the market crashed, and is being brought back just for this event.

  3. Fusion XXX, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale with complex and delicate flavors will be Lagunitas first ever, never-before- seen, fusion beer made for Chicago! (Chicago— get excited!)

  4. Tony Magee, the founder Lagunitas, has published his own book, So You Want to Start a Brewery: The Lagunitas Story, which is about how Lagunitas made its mark on the brewing world. Magree is also a Chicago native!

  5. In an interview with Paste Magazine, Magee shares that Chicago’s architecture was the inspiration behind Lagunita’s IPA beer label. He states, “It had a lot to do with my childhood in Chicago. Bauhaus was the design aesthetic because there’s a ton of that architecture in Chicago. In Bauhaus, things stand for themselves, not something else—it’s straightforward.”

We are so excited to spend our Wednesday night on August 5th sipping on some Lagunitas beer! You can check out more of their summer lineup here
