Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle (our news outlet) will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.
Let us introduce our Homie, Chantel.
Chantel Luxem of LX MGMT
Q: What is your role at LX MGMT?
A: I founded LX MGMT, based in Chicago's River North, to offer a unique management style that accelerates client success in talent development, performance bookings, media appearances, brand recognition, and strategic partnerships. Clients include top experts, performers, athletes, on-air talent and hosts in entertainment/music, food, fashion, fitness, sports, literature, and lifestyle. My roster ranges from a top international surfer to a southern rock singer to a new designer to a on-camera nutritionist and food & music host to a CEO-turned-author… No two days – even hours – are the same!
Q: How did you end up in Chicago?
A: Right after college, I got the chance of a lifetime to work for The Oprah Winfrey Show here in Chicago. It was actually the only job I applied to my Senior year, so thankfully the stars aligned. I started in the Research Department and quickly moved on to Production, where I was able to be part of the best team in television until the show came to a close in 2011. I stayed on the team as they transitioned to OWN with The Rosie Show for another year and then decided to make the leap into going into business for myself.
Through my experiences at Oprah, I was able to work with the best managers, agents and publicists in the entertainment business. I pitched hundreds of press releases a week, so I was able to distinguish what worked and made it through the channels for a successful booking. It was the culmination of those first-hand experiences that I honed my skills for talent development. I felt like there was a lack of expert representation and personal brand building in Chicago, so I made it a point to start my business here to help local talent reach a national level of exposure.
Q: What inspires or motivates you?
A: What inspires me in business is the mindset of no limits and no fear, along with surrounding myself with people who can execute. It's an exciting time to be an entrepreneur, and I wouldn't want it any other way. When starting my own business almost three years ago at the age of 28, I didn't have too much time to question what the heck I was getting myself into. It was time to execute and fast. You to have confidence in yourself, your team and your client, and get working. I think being very, very busy helps keep the train on the tracks and doesn't allow for us to get stuck on a perceived failure for too long.
In present day, I get energized when thinking of new ways to crack clients' professional potential. There's no simple road to success or fame, which holds vastly different meanings depending on the client I'm working with. It's an insane process to navigate, but I love this crazy job.
Q: What is your creative process?
A: My creative process is two-fold: 1. It is an extremely collaborative, team sport approach (with lots of list making) and 2. then gets prioritized and fine-tuned into specific career goals that highlight their foremost expertise. We work with such diverse industries that I need many resources to know how to represent properly. However, you begin to see a formula that you apply across the board, no matter what they do, to reach the ultimate goal: This will really make my client standout and stay out among the competition.
