#ChromeHomie: Elise Hofer

September 16, 2015

Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle (our news outlet) will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.

Let us introduce our Homie, Elise.

Elise Hofer of Sophisticated Living Magazine

Q: What is your role at Sophisticated Living Chicago?

A: Sophisticated Living Chicago is a bimonthly luxury lifestyle publication that is direct mailed to 20,000 Chicagoland households with annual incomes of more than 400K - very targeted, very elite. The magazine is a gift to Chicago's industry leaders and influencers. I plan the editorial content for each issue, budget said content, assign all content to freelance writers and photographers (and to myself), assist in photo editing, and top edit and proof all stories.

Q: What is your favorite part about Chicago?

A: The people are kind and approachable, and Midwesterners have an amazing work ethic. The restaurant scene is unbeatable and the architecture is obviously insane.

Q: How did you meet Alex?

A: Alex invited me for lunch (read: wine) at Tavern on Rush and we hit it off immediately. Since then we've been to a Miley Cyrus concert together, shared clothes and are Soho House buddies.

Q: Who has influenced you the most in your career?

A:  My mom was a copy editor for my dad's advertising company when I was growing up, so I think I caught the bug from her. And the other editors in this city are amazingly talented. They definitely raise the bar.

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: Our city rose up from the ashes after the Chicago Fire like a phoenix. I love that strength and I see it in Chicagoans everyday - rebuilding, growing, attacking life. You can't help but be inspired by it.

Q: What is your creative process?

A: Sit down and write. Getting something on paper is the only way to get started. Write first, edit later. I write better in the mornings when everything is clear and sharp. In the afternoons I usually send most of my emails and follow-ups on meetings, and requests for interviews and art, and cataloguing content. And I'm nothing without a large iced decaf latte. If I need to restart my engine and clear out the cobwebs, I swim laps.

Thanks for being a Chrome Homie, Elise!
