Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle (our news outlet) will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.
Let us introduce our Homie, Michael.
Michael Corrigan of The Tie Bar
Q: What is The Tie Bar and what is your role there?
A: Founded a decade ago on the premise that a well-made tie shouldn’t cost a fortune, The Tie Bar has become the go-to destination for cool men’s accessories at awesome prices - neckties, bow ties, tie bars, pocket squares, socks, belts, and more! As the in-house Publicist for the brand, I am responsible for the brand’s media relations (regularly gracing the pages of GQ Magazine, Esquire, and Details among others) and influencer product seeding for the brand’s raving fan base which includes bloggers, athletes, and countless celebrities (Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris, Jon Hamm, and Chris Evans). Shout out to Melinda, Erin, and the best marketing team in the game!
Q: How did you end up in Chicago?
A: I was Midwest born and after five years between Los Angeles and Denver I needed a change of scenery. Many friends had moved here after high school so when I was ready to make my next step it seemed the perfect choice. Six years later I have yet to look back.
Q: What is your favorite part about this city?
A: The energy is a perfect balance and people are so friendly. I hate to drive so not having a car is a huge plus for me too!
Q: How did you meet Alex?
A: Alex and I have been great friends since we attended college at LMU in Los Angeles together (Sigma Chi and Kappa Alpha Theta forever haha). It’s rare to have somebody in your life for multiple chapters and it’s been so special to see our careers progress over time and that we’ve both found a home here together in the Windy City.
Q: Who has influenced you the most in your career?
A: My Father. He told me once that “you have love what you do because you spend more time working than anything else”. That really stuck with me and will be something I always hold true in my heart.
Q: What inspires or motivates you?
A: Menswear is having such a big moment again. From the start of New York Men’s Fashion week to the launch of the New York Times Men’s Style Section it is showing no sign of slowing down soon. To be a part of that is something I feel so fortunate for every day.
Q: What is your creative process?
A: Read, Coffee, Write, Coffee, Pitch, Coffee, Repeat
Thanks for being a Chrome Homie, Michael!
