For the next few weeks, we're going to let our fall interns take the reins and share with you some of their interests and talents. This week, we introduce our intern Elly. Elly is a junior at DePaul University majoring in public relations and advertising. She is passionate about fashion, photography and blogging. Elly decided to create her own blog to showcase her amazing style and passions.
Creating a blog sounds time consuming and difficult, but once you become invested in something that you love, it comes easy. I started my own blog. FiveFeetofGold.com, as a way to take down my style and experiences around Chicago and beyond. I have followed more fashion bloggers than I ever imagined, and that is exactly what has driven me and inspired me to create a blog that I can call my own.
To get my blog going I had to plan out all the details that it would require to start the process; this took nearly over a year! The hardest part to starting my blog was definitely picking my name. When I was in grade school and high school, I had a Tumblr that was called, Chicago Gold and this is where I derived the name for my blog. “Five Feet” comes straight from the cold hard fact that I am five feet tall (and proud). The “Gold” part comes from one great quote, “Wear black and be gold.”
I have a slight obsession with a few bloggers who really influenced me to get involved into not only the blogging world, but the fashion world as well. WeWoreWhat, Sincerely Jules and Damsel in Dior are by far my top three favorites. Every single morning I check Instagram and their personal blogs to catch up on their latest posts. I would definitely say that a lot of my personal style comes from the inspiration of unique designers and bloggers around the world.
Although this is just the beginning of my blogging career, I aim to stay true to my self and style. Blogging for me is less of a task, and more of a passion. I hope that as I continue to stay up to date with my posts and get involved in the blogging world, that I can make a name for myself.
