#ChromeHomie: Heidi Hageman

January 6, 2016

Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle (our news outlet) will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.

Let us introduce homie, Heidi.

Heidi Hageman of H2 Public Relations

Q: Explain your job position.

A: President/Founder of H2 Public Relations, a small boutique PR firm with offices in Chicago and San Diego. H2 specializes in media management for an inspiring group of respected chefs, restaurant collectives and industry professionals. From food, beverage and design innovators to rising star standouts in the culinary world, H2PR has been privileged to help create buzz and secure media placements for James Beard & Michelin star chefs, Food & Wine Best New Chefs, Master Sommeliers, winners of Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards and recipients of the International Association of Culinary Professionals’ (IACP) highest honors. More simply, my personal position can be summed up as a storyteller, beverage enthusiast, fervent multi-tasker, daily dinner companion, round-the-clock networker, avid taste tester and frequent flyer. #HustleHard

Q: What is your creative process?

A: A few things help my creative process: first off, location. To be inspired, you need to feel inspired. A couple of times a week my Chicago team and I change up our surroundings and ditch our West Loop office in favor of beautiful creative spaces in the city like The Chicago Athletic Association, Soho House, Restoration Hardware or The Winchester. Also, as anyone who runs a business will tell you, your mind is also always on. My most creative ideas actually often come to me when I’m sleeping or even when I’m just walking down the street. I send myself voice memos or write down what’s in my head to make sure I don’t forget my train of thought at the moment. Finally, they say two heads are better than one. In my case it’s three heads in Chicago and four more in California. My staff is AWESOME. I love having a super small team where we can be incredibly hands on with our clients, and each member brings different strengths and skill sets; it contributes to the bigger picture for our clients. Small in size, big results—that's our mantra.

Q: What inspires and motivates you?

A: This is easy: passion. We’re so lucky to work with people—actually, artists—who put their heart and soul into everything they do each and every day. It’s infectious and it makes our job easier. To sit with a client and to hear them describe their vision for a new venue, dish or project with a through-the-roof level of enthusiasm—it just makes you want to get out there and work hard for them, especially when you care as much about their craft as they do.

Q: What has most influenced your career?

A: My dad. He worked for the same company for close to 35 years and made his way from the very bottom to the very top before he retired. As a kid, I was always in awe of how much he loved his job, and I often traveled with him on company trips where his passion for his work was most apparent. A job is a job, but everyone should truly (I mean really, truly) enjoy what they are doing, and he taught me that. Plus, he always pushed me to do my best. Work ethic is everything!

Thanks for being a Chrome Homie, Heidi!
