#ChromeHomie: Christy Abshire-Lopez

March 9, 2016

Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle (our news outlet) will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.

Let us introduce our very own Homie, Christy.

Christy Abshire-Lopez, Creative Director of Chrome City Creative

Q: Explain your job position.

A: As the Creative Director of Chrome City, I handle all things visually creative from marketing campaigns to branding guides and everything in between. I love working deeply with a brand to ensure that the story they want to tell is visually reflected. I strongly believe that in the fast-paced world we live in, a strong visual representation of your brand is VITAL to it’s success.

Q: What is your creative process?

A: I definitely need to be inspired before I can begin creating. That inspiration comes at the most random and sometimes inconvenient times, but when it strikes, I try to carve time out of my day to explore it. I am most creative at night when I am away from my computer. There is nothing like doing a good ole’ pencil sketch to get the ideas flowing.

Once an idea strikes and I am ready to get to work, I prefer to be alone at home with a fire going and scented candles lit, whatever tunes I am currently vibing to and a glass of wine. This allows me to tune out everything else I have going on in my life and truly tap into my creativity. I know this is odd, but when I get stuck on a project, I jump in the shower and let the water wash away the anxiety that comes with not knowing what to do next. I often get my most powerful ideas when I am letting my mind wander while in the shower. Needless to say, I am very clean! :)

Q: How did you end up in Chicago?

A: I grew up in San Diego and went to college in Long Beach. I LOVE beach living, but I was looking for something more. I always dreamed of being in a big city where I didn’t have to drive everywhere and I could wear awesome winter coats! After graduation, I had the rare opportunity to pick up and move wherever my heart desired. I packed my whole life up into my pickup truck and my then fiance, now husband and I drove across the country and wound up in Chicago. We planned on only staying here for six months and then moving on to New York, but we instantly fell in love with the city and the friends we made and have been here ever since!

Q: What is your favorite part about living in Chicago?

A: I LOVE the hustle of this city! The energy is palpable and you can’t help but get swept up in it. There is an amazing creative culture here that I have only just begun to tap into. I love talking to other creatives and hearing their stories and learning about their processes. In Chicago, the art world feels more approachable than in New York or Los Angeles, allowing creatives to take more risks and get their work out there.

Q: What is your experience with Alex?

A: I met Alex when we were both working for Mercadito Hospitality. She worked for my husband and they bonded over their San Diego connection. As we transitioned out of our hospitality jobs and dove into our professional careers, our paths crossed again when she started Chrome City. I came on as a designer and quickly became a full-time part of Chrome City. It has been amazing to watch the growth of our company from day one until where we are today. I couldn’t imagine being on this thrilling adventure with anyone else!

Thanks for being a Chrome Homie, Christy!
