Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle (our news outlet) will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.
Let us introduce our first ever Chrome Mom, Carol.
Carol Howell-Ott Barraza, Ott to Redesign
Q. Explain your job position.
A. After working in the corporate world for 30+ years in the Title Insurance Industry, the opportunity to work for myself with my love for design was created, hence Ott to Redesign.
I work in many aspects of "redesign" including interior design for homes and offices. Staging homes for sale and redesigning businesses for updated social media sites, marketing for better branding or just cleaning out and re-organizing.
Q. What is your creative process?
A. I always do my homework to find out as much as I can about an individual or company through social media and mutual acquaintances. I look for their interests, their home life and with businesses, how they present themselves to their public. From there, I begin the process for Redesign!
Q. What inspires & motivates you?
A. To make a positive difference in people's lives.
Q. How did you end up in Chicago?
A. My daughter went to a friend's wedding 5 years ago in Chicago. When she returned, she said, "this is where I want to be." She loved the people, lifestyle and saw tremendous opportunity to build her own business. Two years ago she opened "Chrome City." In addition, nine months ago her brother joined her. I too have fallen in love with the city along with their friends and colleagues.
Q. What is your favorite part about Chicago?
A. I was born and raised in San Diego & still live there, but Chicago is SO alive! There is always something fun to do and the people work hard and play hard, that's been my style in the past. But my very favorite and part of Chicago are my amazing kids, Alexandria & Anthony Ott.
Q. What has most influenced your career?
A. Honestly, I wanted more than my Mother believed she had, choices in life. I've worked with deliberate focus to be the best in all that I do. To achieve the goals I have set for myself and exceed my company's expectations. This has allowed me movement in any direction and to dictate my income, hours and lifestyle.
Q. What is your experience with Alex?
A. She is my dream come true! Having 3 brothers and no sisters, I had to have a girl and sure enough, she was our first born. She has always been very smart and curious and has no fear. Having a child with no fear is tricky, but I raised her to feel empowered and to dream with her whole heart. Alex has stellar work ethics and raises the road to success for her clients; which in turn catapults her to place she so chooses. Choices!
Thanks for being a Chrome Mom, Carol!
