Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.
Let us introduce our Homie, Rachel.
Rachel Doyle-Hobbs, Membership Coordinator at Soho House
Q: Explain your job position.
A: I work as the Membership Coordinator for Soho House Chicago. I manage the behind the scenes administrative side of membership from the point of people calling with interest through to applying, I also oversee the process of Committee review, acceptance and looking after members and their memberships. It’s an extremely busy department and we have had huge interest in the House since we opened just under two years ago (it was actually our 2nd birthday on August 11th!).
Q: What inspires and motivates you?
A: I am really inspired by the people I work with currently have worked with in the past, especially with Soho House. They are a true champion of internal promotion and people working their way up. My first GM in London started in the coat check over 15 years ago and is now the Director of Clubs for the UK so if ever there was an example of hard work and determination leading to success, he is it. My parents are also a huge source of inspiration for me. They are both artists-my dad is photographer who has lectured at university level his whole life and my mom is a painter and makes jewelry. I grew up in a very creative environment, always around other artists from a very young age.
Q: How did you end up in Chicago?
A: I have actually worked for Soho House & Co. for almost seven years now starting my career in London. When the opportunity arose to transfer to Chicago and help open a new House I jumped at it because who doesn’t want to experience the American dream? It was a scary but exciting step considering I had never been in the US until I stepped off the plane. But it has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Q: What is your favorite part about living in Chicago?
A: Chicago has honestly been one of the most welcoming cities especially coming from London where it can definitely be a bit isolating and lonely. The people have been so friendly from the get go, and I have made some amazing friends here. There is constantly something to do and I love the festival culture - there is literally a different street fest every weekend during the summer which is amazing. Also its pretty damn nice having an actual summer since I’m from Ireland where our summers consist of rain, rain and more rain! I also love the foodie aspect of Chicago, anyone who knows me knows I love to eat, so I love that Chicagoans really embrace good food and it’s so much part of the culture here.
Q: What is your experience with Alex and Chrome City?
A: I met Alex within my first few months of living in Chicago through Soho House and mutual friends. I instantly liked her as she is such an open, warm & free spirited person. I am in awe of how much she has achieved so far and even by how much I have seen Chrome City grow in the short time I have known her. She’s young, started her own business and is killing it. A true Lady Boss and inspiration to me!!
Thanks for being a Chrome Homie, Rachel!
