#ChromeHomie: Kwame N Kruma

September 14, 2016

Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.

Let us introduce our Homie, Kwame.

Kwame, Creative Director/Designer

Q: Explain your job position.

A: As a fashion designer I created my own brand, Kwame Nkruma. I just finished a collection of men's fashion and furniture aesthetics truly innovational.

Q: What is your creative process?

A: My creative process begins with travelling and sourcing unique fabrics from around the world to use in my collections.

Q: What inspires and motivates you?

A: I really enjoy vintage shopping, it gets me fired up to find something original. I'm motivated by the desire to not be average and I really despise the thought of not being free to do what I want when I want. There is a certain power in entrepreneurship.

Q: How did you end up in Chicago?

A: I was born and raised in the suburbs right outside the city. Chicago has always been my home!

Q: What is your favorite part about living in Chicago?

A: In Chicago, the quality of living for the cost is amazing. It's in general a beautiful city as well; I love the architecture. It's also very unsaturated yet growing when it comes to the fashion industry, so there is plenty of potential.

Q: What has most influenced your career?

A: My father. He was the one who truly started me in the fashion business by exposing me to the world of global manufacturing and sourcing.

Q: What is your experience with Alex and Chrome City?

A: Alex is an amazing human being who also thrives in the power of freedom and entrepreneurship. I remember when she just got started with her blog and it has grown so much. She changes her style all the time, so I look for the signature dimple to make sure its her (lol). I'm honored to be apart of her brand!
