Here at Chrome City we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.
Let us introduce our Homie, Lindsay.
Lindsay Brown, Graphic Designer
Q: Explain your job position.
A: I’m a jack of all trades! I started my design career in digital design then worked for a children’s toy company on product development and packaging - which I loved but it got stale after a while. During that time I designed my first wedding invitation for my best friend which were a huge hit! I left my packaging job to freelance and low and behold landed a fulltime job working for a small event design company as their graphic designer which is when I realized I was on to something good :) I left that company to start LBrown Design & Paperie 2.5 years ago and haven’t looked back!
LBrown Design & Paperie pushes the envelope with design, specializing in custom invitations suites for weddings and events thinking outside the box to provide clients with one-of-a-kind paper suites. From spray painted wedding invitations to textural silk and lace menu embellishments. I personally work with clients on every little detail of their wedding or event, providing them with custom designed save the dates, invitations, escort cards, thank you notes and more.
Although, not majority of my work, I also still design packaging and branding for various clients. Which is always so fun!
Q: What inspires and motivates you?
A: Every single client that walks in the door will receives their own custom designed suite. No two are the same. I am always coming up with something new and creative, which always keeps me on my toes. BUT my favorite part of the job and what truly keeps me motivated is the clients reaction when they see the final product and their guests reaction when they receive the invitations in the mail. This is the ultimate compliment, there truly is no better feeling!
Q: How did you end up in Chicago?
A: I was born and raised in the northern suburbs, so I always have called Chicago home. I moved back right away after attending Western Michigan University for undergrad. I couldn’t wait to be a big city girl!
Q: What is your favorite part about living in Chicago?
A: What’s not to love? The city is so vibrant! I love that one minute you can take a bike ride on the lakefront and the next, hop on a water taxi to Chinatown for dim sum - two of my all-time favorite things to do. Not to mention the restaurants, bars, live music and of course the CUBS!
Q: What has most influenced your career?
A: My dad. I lost my dad when I was a senior in high school. Of course that was hard in it of itself and going off to college was scary but if I hadn’t gone through that, I think I would still be riding the waves of teaching. It is still hard to believe I went to underground in elementary education! It taught me that life is too short to not do what you love and I am so lucky to have found my true passion in design.
Q: What has been the most memorable part of your career?
A: This is a tough one. I think the most memorable thing in my career was taking the big step of going off on my own and starting my own company. It wasn’t (and still isn’t) easy, but I can say full-heartedly say that it was the best decision I have ever made in my personal and professional career.
Thanks for being a Chrome Homie Lindsay!
