The Evolution of the Sports Jersey

February 1, 2016

From the streets of Hollywood to the runways of NYC to our own backyard, Chrome City has been watching sports jerseys permeate the fashion world for some time now. Jerseys have become more than just a way to support your favorite team, but a way to represent street style as well.

As girls who live in Chicago, we love seeing models like Cara Delevingne, and celebrities like Rihanna, making the Chicago Bulls jersey look so good. The influence of athletic wear in fashion has sky rocketed and become a piece of luxury, as designers like Adidas and Tom Ford include sportswear into their collections.

With the Super Bowl coming up this Sunday, Chrome City intern, Elly Hayn (of Five Feet of Gold) rounded up a few ways for you to easily transform jerseys you’ll love to wear. Here’s some inspiration for you fashionable sports lover’s:

Take the average cotton t-shirt and throw over a sleek cape or blazer to transition it into a sporty-chic look. Add a pair of heels and leather leggings if you're heading an upscale bar. (Left)

Show off some leg by grabbing your guy friend's jersey and wearing it as a dress. Add those over-the-knee boots you've been dying to wear to keep your legs warm in the colder weather. (Right)

Just got a new fur coat? The easiest way to stay warm and be stylish is throwing it over your shoulders and putting on your favorite beanie. Be one of the boys and make this look casual with boyfriend jeans and sneakers. (Left)

Couldn't find a jersey that fits? Tuck the slouchy jersey into a skirt and add on a long-line vest to create the illusion that it's supposed to look that way. The skirt will add a hint of femininity to your outfit. (Right)

The #ChromeCrew will be catching the game at Third Rail Tavern. West Loop's finest neighborhood bar will have specials running all day including brunch till 2PM and $8 Bloody Mary's. The tavern is located at 1133 W. Madison St.

Hope to see you there!
