Here at Chrome City, we pride ourselves in having ultra-creative and inspiring homies throughout the Chicago area. Each week, the Chrome Chronicle (our news outlet) will share a little bit about these incredible people and why we are excited to feature them as our #ChromeHomie.
Let us introduce our Homie, Emma.
Emma Arnold of Weber Shandwick and Tres Awesome
Q: Explain your job position.
A: I’m an Associate Creative Director at the advertising and PR firm Weber Shandwick. I come up with campaign ideas for a wide variety of major brands and see them through to execution. I’m the founder of the street style fashion blog TresAwesome.com where I capture the fabulous looks of people on the street of Chicago and beyond.
Q: What is your creative process?
A: When I’m tasked with solving a creative problem for a client my process is to do anything but sit at my desk. Although it sounds cliched I come up with my best ideas on the train, in the shower or on a walk. I’m also very inspired about hearing the stories and process of other artists. Two podcasts that are great for that are The Moment with Brian Koppleman and WTF with Marc Maron.
Q: What inspires and motivates you?
A: I’m very inspired by contemporary art, photography, music and obviously people’s personal style!
Q: How did you end up in Chicago?
A: I came to Chicago to study graphic design at the Art Institute of Chicago. Growing up I was always an artist, mainly painting and drawing. But reality hits at some point and I realized I had to get a real job with health insurance! A big part of growing up for me was the realization that creativity was not limited to the art studio, it’s a frame of mind that is always asking the question “What if?” and not settling for how things already are.
Q: What is your favorite part about living in Chicago?
A: There are so many things to love about Chicago! The food, music, architecture and winter (just kidding!). Since Chicago is a bit of a fashion underdog I love that I get to highlight the incredible style sensibility and flair of the citizens of our town.
Q: What has most influenced your career?
A: One word. HUSTLE. Hard work and focus will get you everywhere. When I was building my blog the world revolved around that project. I vacationed in places that would benefit my brand (i.e the worlds fashions weeks) I made friends within the fashion community here in Chicago and I pretty much gave up every single hobby or interest that previously occupied my time (books, movies etc.). so that I could be out on the street shooting, working on my social presence or improving my site.
Thanks for being a Chrome Homie, Emma!
