Weather can be the most brutal factor against maintaining vibrant and colorful healthy hair year round. With the recent extremely cold temperatures and environmental hazards, this winter may have taken a toll on keeping up a proper hair care routine. To combat the harsh cold weather and keep up your vibrant color for the spring, John Blue, Owner and Colorist of BOSS HAIR GROUP, offers five tips to nourish and protect your color-treated tresses throughout the remaining winter months.
Tip 1: Purchase a professional brand color-safe moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Using these daily, or every other day will keep your colored hair moisturized and prevent it from drying out.
Tip 2: Use a color-depositing conditioning mask to not only moisturize the hair, but to deposit color to keep it from looking dry or faded. This will help keep your color looking fresh and fade-free.
Tip 3: Blondes have a typically tough time in the winter because highlighted hair is already partially compromised in itself because of the lightening process. Prior to moisturizing, it’s imperative to put protein back in the hair to allow it to accept moisture. If hair is already damaged and dry, it cannot hold moisture if it is not strong enough to do so.
Tip 4: Prior to blow drying or iron styling your hair, it’s necessary to use a heat protective spray that can be used on both wet and dry hair. This will fortify your strands and reduce the stresses of heat styling by coating the hair with a protective layer of moisture. Finish with a light nourishing oil to any frayed ends.
Tip 5: In between color services, book a clear or color gloss to keep the color vibrant and well-conditioned. These glosses generally last anywhere from 2-4 weeks, depending on how often you shampoo. This will not only keep your color looking fresh, but will smooth the cuticle and maintain the shine resulting in healthy and hydrated looking hair.’
