Our #ChromeClient Flora Fauna, had their highly anticipated opening last week on Wednesday, June 12th! The new tropical destination is packed with international influences and exotic flavors, and we are so excited to be representing an amazing crew and the next major foodie paradise in the city!
From the husband-and-wife team of Chef Jonathan Meyer and award-winning mixologist Liz Pearce, Flora Fauna is a new global-rustic restaurant inspired by the couple’s extensive travels and cooking stints across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean. Located in the former Bohemian House (11 W. Illinois St.), Flora Fauna provides a sophisticated, yet tropical-themed escape within the heart of River North.
The menu offers smaller-format plates that are cleverly categorized as “Flora” (plant-based) and “Fauna” (meat-based), as well as several shareable large-format options. Some of the small dishes include:
Elote Cakes: Sweet corn, kewpie mayo, cotija, honey, picante, citrus
Crispy Fried Mushrooms: Served with a pineapple rum mustard
Seafood “Daiquiri”: Catch of the day, cucumber aguachile, aloe vera, lime granita, radish, jicama, finger chile
Additionally, a comforting Hot Pot selection that is suited for sharing, tempts with a variety of colorful broths, proteins and vegetables for guests to choose from. This creative twist on a Mexican molcajete is offered as "from the sea," "from the farm" or "from the garden."
From new spins on classic cocktails to a creative "build your own cocktail adventure," the beverages at Flora Fauna are centered around bright and colorful drinks that are equally as delicious as they are beautiful. Pearce’s growing passion for sustainability has led to a beverage program crafted with an emphasis on eco-friendly practices such as wines on tap and ingredient cross-utilization with the kitchen in an effort to cut down on unnecessary waste.
A few of Pearce’s original cocktails include:
Pineapple Old Fashioned: Old Forester 100 bourbon, pineapple cordial, blackstrap rum, angostura bitters
Basic Beach: Los Vecinos mezcal, coconut, lime, strawberry, soda
Yuzu Daiquiri: Jamaican white rum, yuzu sake, lime, sesame oil floated on top
From Pearce’s creative, sustainable and fun cocktails to chef Meyer’s rustically refined menus incorporating unconventional ingredients and exotic spices, Flora Fauna is where inspired flavor combinations come alive. Make your reservation today and be sure to try the Hot Pot!
