As a member of our team, you will be exposed to a range of creative and innovative entrepreneurs in the city that include restaurateurs, chefs, stylists, artists and more.
We are looking for a promising Public Relations (PR) Assistant to support our PR team (Under Director of PR and Senior Publicist) with various administrative tasks. Though you’ll be holding an entry level position, your work will be instrumental in the development and execution of PR plans and strategies.
Our ideal candidate is a creative multi-tasker and holds a degree in PR or Communications. A fervent interest in the field partnered with good verbal/written communication, research, and organization skills are very important to us. Successful candidate will facilitate the smooth day-to-day operations of our client accounts and bring consistently fresh ideas to the table. Our work ranges from event creation to community outreach, street team marketing and media relations. The ideal candidate has previous PR experience (2 years preferred), and a proven ability to prioritize and is comfortable managing multiple accounts and deadlines.
Keep calendars (editorial, press conferences, events etc.) and media lists
Update all ongoing media lists for PR database both local and national
Develop understanding of industry trends affecting clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them
Manage media inquiries and interview requests
Draft and disseminate a wide range of public relations materials (i.e. press releases, media alerts, pitches, backgrounders, and other materials)
Pitch local, regional and national contacts with targeted angles
Organization of client project management files (ie- Google spreadsheets, Dropbox and more)
Support all mid-level and senior level publicists with ideation by participating in brainstorming and planning sessions
Assist in organizing and execution of events, campaigns etc.
Conduct research to support PR planning
Draft and distribute content such as newsletters, releases and roundups.
Assist in tracking media coverage or PR metrics (e.g. web analytics)
Undertake general administrative and clerical duties
Assist with clips, tracking circulation numbers and placement values
Attend client meetings regularly and assist leading accounts with meeting agendas and PR reports
Coordinate and attend client meetings and off-site events for clients (i.e. photo shoots)
Facilitate PR intern initiatives, project development, and community outreach efforts
Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media
Review editorial calendars to identify personalized angles for each of the clients
Schedule and attend meetings with local press including journalists, bloggers, social media influencers and segment producers to establish a professional network, as directed
A degree in communications and/or relevant field with experience and course work focused on Public Relations
Previous experience in communications (2 years minimum)
Able to provide examples of past secured (or assisted) media coverage in broadcast, print and online news outlets in the Chicago market
Developed relationships with both local and national media outlets
Proven experience as PR assistant or similar position
Understanding of PR and marketing concepts and practices
Willingness to follow and understand industry trends and current methods
Knowledge of video production and editing
Computer savvy; working knowledge of databases and design software (e.g. Photoshop) is a plus
Excellent communication and writing skills
Well-organized, able to work with deadlines
Have a full understanding of media needs and media relationships
Must be able to thrive in a boutique style environment
Extremely detail-oriented and be able to work in a flexible work environment (hours are not restricted to 9-5pm).
Possess leadership skills, result-oriented, creative, a strategic thinker, collaborator, and team player
Candidate should be a motivated, energetic and proactive self starter
